Saint Mary and baby Jesus

Mary holds the Child close and gestures toward Him, a traditional way of showing that Christ is the center, the answer and The only mediator between man and God. Stars on her shoulders and forehead represent virginity before, during, and after conceiving Christ. A common misunderstanding is that Mary is “worshiped” in orthodox and catholic traditions. She is not. Worship belongs to God alone. Mary is venerated as the foremost saint and as the Mother of God, and believers ask for her intercession in the same logic as asking a trusted person to pray.

In modern times where we are so confused about femininity, Mary might be worth observing. Showing tenderness without weakness, protection without possession, love that gives rather than controls. Christian scholars explicitly present her as a model of motherhood and as a reference point when speaking about women’s dignity and vocation.

In Coptic tradition, this nearness of Mary is also linked to the reported Zeitoun apparitions in Cairo (1968–71), investigated and affirmed in an official papal statement by Pope Kyrillos VI.
